New Generation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (NewGen IEDC), Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be University) – DMIHER (DU)

NewGen IEDC at DMIHER is a flagship national initiative sponsored by the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India), implemented by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, and hosted by Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education & Research (DMIHER–DU).

The centre nurtures a vibrant culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among Science & Technology students, guiding them to transform creative ideas into commercially viable startup ventures within the academic ecosystem of DMIHER.

Objectives of NewGen IEDC – DMIHER

  • To channelize the knowledge, creativity, and energy of youth towards meaningful contribution to economic development through entrepreneurship.
  • To promote knowledge-based, innovation-driven enterprises leading to new employment opportunities for students and young innovators.
  • To inculcate a strong entrepreneurial mindset rooted in innovation and problem-solving.
  • To serve as an institutional mechanism providing support services, resources, and guidance to aspiring S&T entrepreneurs at DMIHER.

 Salient Features

  • Encouragement for interdisciplinary teams involving students from various levels and departments under DMIHER.
  • High-potential projects are groomed to evolve into registered startups originating from DMIHER.

Key Functions of NewGen IEDC – DMIHER

  • Inspire, support, and mentor students in identifying, shaping, and commercializing their innovative concepts.
  • Initiate and support a targeted number of student innovation projects every year focused on product development.
  • Organize Business Plan competitions, Innovation Camps, hackathons, and other entrepreneurship-focused events with active involvement of industry partners and alumni.
  • Guide students in preparing project proposals, securing funding and approvals, establishing bank linkages, obtaining technology support, and accessing startup support systems.
  • Facilitate engagement with entrepreneurs, industry experts, investors, banking professionals, and potential customers through a strong mentorship ecosystem.
  • Support the formation and sustainability of entrepreneurship clubs/E-Cells across DMIHER to cultivate a thriving entrepreneurial culture among students.
